Following instructions from the government, the school site will be closed to pupils (apart from children of key workers) from the end of the day on Friday 20 March with no indication given of when that situation will change. A long-serving host of regional news and has been honoured by York St John University.

Old Peterite, Harry Gration, (Queen's 1965-1969) who has hosted the BBC’s Look North for many years, was given an honorary doctorate at a ceremony at York Minster on Thursday 22 November 2018.

Harry took to Twitter after the ceremony to mark a “lovely day” in a “superb setting”, and “an award I will cherish”.

He thanked everyone who took the time to congratulate him on his honour.

He wrote: “Still overwhelmed with so many lovely comments. When I looked up and saw the Minster packed it was a moving moment. Needed to gather myself! The Archbishop was wonderful. Thanks to all.”
