Old Peterite Sam Philpott was part of the victorious Cambridge University Lightweight crew that triumphed against Oxford in the Henley races.
After hitting 41 strokes per minute against Oxford’s 38, Cambridge quickly established a lead. By Upper Thames the Cambridge crew were two lengths ahead, leaving Oxford a huge challenge to respond.
Despite an improvement in Oxford’s rowing, it was a dominant performance by the team in light blue as they crossed the line in a time of 6:19.
Nineteen-year-old Sam is now focused on the GB trials, and hopes to make the U23 squad in the coming years.
Sam said: “Obviously I am tremendously grateful to the School for giving me the opportunity to row competitively whilst I was there, without which I would certainly not be in the position I am in.”
