Year 8 Enterprise Fair

This year, Year 8 pupils once again took part in our annual Enterprise Fair, an exciting initiative that brings together learning from Art, Design Technology and English. Working in small teams as businesses, pupils were challenged to design, create, market and sell their own products, developing a wide range of creative, practical and entrepreneurial skills along the way.

Over the course of the enterprise journey, pupils produced an impressive range of products, including handmade chocolates and packaging, Jesmonite pieces, clay creations, hand-painted items, sublimation-printed products, felt crafts, paper crafts and much more. As their ideas developed, they were encouraged to make creative decisions, solve problems independently and collaborate effectively with their team members.

The experience focused on much more than simply making products. Pupils learnt how to respond to feedback, refine their ideas and consider factors such as quality, branding and target audience. They explored how successful businesses develop a clear brand identity and create products that appeal to a specific market, learning that successful outcomes often require adaptation and improvement throughout the design process.

Through their English lessons, pupils also developed their communication and marketing skills, creating persuasive advertising campaigns and promotional materials for their businesses. They carefully considered how best to communicate with potential customers and promote their products to the wider school community.

The culmination of the project was the Enterprise Fair itself, where pupils transformed their ideas into fully realised stalls. Displaying their products alongside banners, signage and other point-of-sale materials they had designed and created, they enthusiastically promoted and sold their work to members of the school community.

The Enterprise Fair continues to be a fantastic opportunity for pupils to showcase not only their creativity and making skills, but also their teamwork, independence, resilience and communication skills. They embraced every stage of the process, learnt from challenges and feedback, and demonstrated impressive commitment throughout. They should be incredibly proud of everything they achieved and of how much they developed over the course of the experience.
