Chris Mullin: Great Political Disasters

Chris MullinFor quite some time in the government’s planning, Thursday March 28th would have been the final evening before we left the European Union. This may have been in the organiser’s mind when he booked former Labour MP for Sunderland and government minister, Chris Mulin, to speak on Great Political Disasters.

This was Chris’ third visit to St Peter’s in recent years. As on his previous visits, he spoke very entertainingly, getting us to think whilst making us laugh. His sweep of late twentieth and early twenty-first century disasters was even-handed, taking in both Labour and Conservative governments and their misjudgments from Suez and the Iraq War to the sale of council houses.
