St Olave’s continued their exploration of the Viking Age with a day of authentic Viking crafts and sagas.

Following their visit to Murton Park earlier this year, J1 have been exploring what life was really like in the North of England over 1,000 years ago. The classes made traditional Viking flatbread, had a go at tablet weaving and crafted their own Viking inspired brooches out of clay. The day was concluded with the class snuggling under blankets to listen to some traditional Viking Sagas by candlelight.

Viking 2Helen Spencer, J1 teacher at St Olave’s, said: “The children had a great day of authentic crafts and traditional story telling. This hands on approach to history has helped the pupils to gain a deeper understanding of life in Viking times.”
