Our fully qualified school nurse, Mrs Falconer, provides full time cover during the normal school day, Monday to Friday, looking after the health and wellbeing of our children. After 4.00pm and on Saturday mornings, medical treatment is covered by the St Peter’s Medical Centre.
Mrs Falconer works closely with pupils, parents, and teachers offering a confidential link between home and school.
Our nurse oversees the immunisation programme and also the health screening for our J1 pupils, for eyesight, hearing, weight and height. The nurse also helps with part of the PSHE (personal, social and health education) curriculum. When appropriate she provides training to teachers on healthcare issues and advice on the school health policy.
Mrs Falconer manages pupil medical conditions on a daily basis, using personal health care plans, supporting children with medical needs such as asthma, diabetes and epilepsy. She also acts as a point of contact on child protection issues, liaising with House staff and Senior management in a pastoral care role when this is appropriate to do so.
Treatment for minor illness and injury are dealt with by the nurse. If urgent medical treatment is required parents are contacted immediately. The medical area also provides a quiet area for those just needing a place to rest for a few moments.
Our boarders have out of hours care from the medical staff at St Peter’s where there is a resident nurse in the Medical Centre and all boarders register with our local GP.
All pupils complete a Medical Record prior to beginning school and a Health Record Form which is updated annually.
In cases where your child requires medicine administering by the nurse, during the school day, please complete a Parental agreement for school to administer medicine.
