Masterclasses 2018

York Independent State School Partnership Masterclass Programme 2018 for Y9&10

Saturday 24 February, 3 & 10 March St Peter’s School

The big question explored, explained, examined… What is Truth?

The ISSP masterclass programme, running annually since 2008, has consistently been rated very highly by attendees and has been oversubscribed each year. This year’s masterclass programme is again designed to push and challenge York’s most able and interested pupils with all the masterclasses being linked to the question: ‘What is Truth?’ This is a huge question, that fascinates people and can be considered from a wide variety of perspectives.

There are ten masterclasses on offer this year, from which the pupils choose one they will study in depth across three sessions. Subjects range from Art History and Science to Politics and from Maths and Computer Science to Music. Music and Politics are on offer for the very first time. These are not taster sessions but are designed to be academically challenging, thought-provoking and stimulating opportunities to learn more about a subject that the pupil loves and to debate and discuss alongside like-minded young people. This is a free opportunity for pupils in the Partnership’s schools.

The masterclasses for Y9 & 10 will take place at St Peter’s School over three Saturdays, as above and will run from 1.15pm to 5pm. Pupils have to commit to attend all three Saturdays. This year, for the first time, pupils who complete the course are invited to stay for a cooked meal at the end of the day on Saturday 10 March. More information about this event will be sent out nearer the time.

You will find this year’s masterclass titles and a description of their content on the ISSP website: discuss the choices with your son/daughter and, when you have decided which masterclass they would like to apply for, you can fill in the online application form.

The form will close on 9 February or for each masterclass as it becomes full. If you experience difficulty completing the form, please email  Submitting the form does not guarantee a place in a masterclass. You will be contacted by email after the deadline to let you know if your application has been successful.
