St Peter's School
The concert series features at its heart our annual high-profile choral and orchestral concert. Recently we had an exciting opportunity to perform the music from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts with the nationally acclaimed Stan Tracey Orchestra in York Minster. The choral concert brings together singers and musicians from all areas of the school foundation: St Peter’s School Choir, St Olave’s Chapel Choir, and St Peter’s Choral Society, which is a wonderful way for former pupils, parents, staff and friends of St Peter’s to be involved in our music.
There are also a number of concerts within school during the academic year, offering many opportunities for individual and ensemble performance. These include the Christmas Concerts and Summer Cabaret Concerts, which offer great entertainment with performances from a wide range of groups and individuals.
The Chapel Choir sings a number of Evensong services each year. Recently we have sung at Durham Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, York Minster, Trinity College, Cambridge and Christ Church, Oxford. These visits combined the opportunity to sing challenging choral repertoire in the most inspiring venues and the chance to see more of collegiate life, including meeting academic staff.
We also have an Advent Carol Service in Chapel, which is a joint service with St Olave’s School. Our main Carol Service and Commemoration Service take place in York Minster each year with full School Choir and our Brass Ensemble. This strong link with the Minster reflects the long history that exists between the two institutions.
Choral music is a firm feature of all our concerts and events, with the current Director of Music and Assistant Director of Music sharing 50 years of experience working in major cathedral institutions.
