St Peter's School
Girls - Athletics is a major sport for the girls in the summer term. All Third Form girls have one compulsory athletics session on a Friday afternoon where their skills and techniques in all athletic disciplines are examined. During the athletics lessons an emphasis is also placed upon fitness as well as technique.
Although the summer term is relatively short and very busy our athletes enter a number of events which include; inter-school fixtures, inter-house sports day, English athletics track and field cup as well as a number of other local competitions.
The School has enjoyed success both at team and individual level in recent years. We have won the independent Schools girls’ athletic competitions at both U14 and U15 level. A number of girls represent North Yorkshire in the National Schools competition. Each year we host an athletics meet an May when a large number of schools attend and compete in both track and field events.
Boys – Pupils can opt for athletics from Third Form and follow a structured programme which involves experiencing a variety of track and field events. As pupils move through the School they generally specialise in specific events.
The School enters pupils in the North Yorkshire Championships which can lead to representation for Yorkshire and ultimately participation at the English Schools Championships.
