The Rugby Sevens team have reached the semi-finals of the Rossyln Park HSBC Schools Competition – the best performance from a St Peter’s team in nearly a decade.

In the group stages, the boys won all four games, against Hymers, Langley Park, Hayes and Shawnigan Lake. The path to the quarter final groups was sealed with a 19-14 play-off victory against Simon Langton College.

A draw against Berkhamstead left the team needing a win against Felsted to guarantee progress to the semi-finals; the boys responded with their strongest performance of the tournament, beating Felsted 21-0.

The semi-final group began with a 14-10 defeat to Cheltenham College, but an impressive 22-7 win over Bromsgrove left it down to the game between the opposition sides. With Bromsgrove 19-5 up heading into the final two minutes, St Peter’s were on the brink of the final, but Cheltenham produced a late rally to secure their place.

Steve Williams, Head of Sport at St Peter’s, said: “Though the final just evaded our grasp, to reach the stage we have is a remarkable feat – the best our Sevens team have done for quite some time. This boys displayed superb talent and outstanding commitment throughout the tournament and have done the School very proud.”
