St Peter's School
Four of St Peter’s pupils, Zi Han, Nicole, Matthew and James, secured first place in the regional final of the UK Senior Team Maths Challenge this Tuesday.
There were three rounds of challenging mathematical questions, all of which had a time limit to add further pressure. After the first two rounds, St Peter’s managed to be in the top five schools, but never leading. In the final round the team showed excellent spirit and nerves, with a particular final flourish from Zi Han, who solved a quadratic simultaneous equation in under ten seconds.
As the results were announced, three schools had tied for second place; but with only one point more, St Peter’s were the winners. This is an outstanding victory for the school, and the team will now represent St Peter’s in the national finals on 5th February.
Zi Han, the team captain, said: “We all put in the maximum effort and did our best. We’re really pleased with our victory and are looking forward to the national finals next year.”
