St Peter's School
Our boarders have been busy settling back into their Houses at the start of the year with new boarders joining in each of St Peter’s senior Houses as well as our junior House, to experience modern, family-style boarding for the first time.
Dronfield, one of St Peter’s two girls’ boarding houses, is full to the brim for the 2019-20 academic year, welcoming 15 new girls at Third Form, Fourth Form and Lower Sixth. Arriving at the house last Sunday our boarders have been quick getting into the rhythm of the school, with their lessons and co-curricular activities all underway.
Keeping busy and making friends is the best way to keep any early pangs of homesickness at bay and House Parents work hard to make sure there are plenty of things to keep girls active. One of our new boarders at Dronfield, Phoebe, said: “It’s been a really busy week – in a great way!”. Abby, also new to Dronfield, said: “There’s so much stuff to do”.
The house itself is home predominantly to British girls, but is made up from of girls from all over the world, with some of the boarders coming from as far away as Russia, Oman and Hong Kong and others as local as Malton and York. This real mix of nationalities and cultures in the house really boosts the camaraderie amongst the pupils, as there are so many stories from home to share.
Every evening all of the girls in the house meet together for their house meeting. The house meetings are a great time for our boarders to get together and share any news and celebrate each other’s achievements.
There’s loads going on at St Peter’s this term and so much that our boarders are looking forward to. House Sing, an annual inter-house singing competition where every pupil sings alongside their house mates, is particularly anticipated but there are also trips to try paintballing, a theatre visit, boarders’ cookery lessons, as well as the ease and convenience with which boarders can access the School’s vast co-curricular programme. We look forward to seeing what else the girls get to up over the school year.
