St Peter's School
Acclaimed journalist and writer, Misha Glenny visited St Peter’s to give one of our occasional Sixth Form Lectures. Misha made his name covering the collapse of Yugoslavia and the Balkan Wars for the BBC and more recently wrote the novel McMafia, a BBC drama hit in 2018 for which he is currently working on a second series.
Misha took us through the span of European history from the end of the Cold War to the current day. However, this was not a lecture that stayed on the surface, but took us to look at the darker side of that history, tracing the conflicts and power struggles through some of the forces of organized crime and cyber crime which have thrived on instability and the removal of great power authority.
Misha’s talk was engagingly illustrated with stories and video clips from his work in this area. Organiser Mr Fuller said: “Misha gave our students a different perspective on European events and opened their eyes to some of the threats to western democracy and business life. It was an enthralling and sobering afternoon!”
