Rowing to Victory

St Peter’s rowers have struck gold in a successful trip to Ghent Rowing Camp and International Regatta.

The Men’s Under 23 quad scull, made up of Jack Robins, Rob Croft, Stan Schofield and Jack Coulthard, claimed a gold medal at the competition, which features 1500 crews racing from nine nations.

The second day’s performance eclipsed the first as the Lightweight Men’s quad scull won gold with a team featuring Jack Robins, Henry Graham, Jack Coulthard and Stan Schofield. Meanwhile, the Men’s Under 23 quad scull made up of Rob Croft, Zaki Ward, Ed Johnson and George Doyle claimed silver. There were also bronze medals for the Girls’ J16 quad scull, comprising Jodi Smith, Kat Bonner, Lydia Theos and Amber Rose, and the Boys’ J16 coxed four, comprising James Smith, Keiran Whyte, Pierre Herrenschmidt, Elliot Millman and Grayson Townend.

Jamie MacLeod, Director of Rowing at St Peter’s School, said: “Over the two days of the regatta our crews raced 2000 metres - the full international distance - between four and seven times. It was very intense racing and some of the events had huge entry numbers.

“Throughout the trip behaviour and discipline on and off the water, sportsmanship, enthusiasm and effort were very high. My thanks go to all the coaches who supported this trip so tirelessly.”
