Juniors rowers earn medals at Peterborough Championships
13 Third and Fourth Form crews boarded the coach shortly after 6am on Saturday morning to travel down to the Peterborough Junior Championships. This event is a friendly, junior-focused regatta in which crews progress through rounds to finals. Races continued throughout the day with St Peter's crews narrowly missing out on finals. As the regatta was nearing its end, four of our crews were representing the school in their finals.
The J14 quad were awarded a bronze in their category, an encouraging result from a crew in their first year of St Peter's rowing.
Hanno Brach and Joe Johnson raced in J15 'A' doubles, winning a fantastic gold medal, followed soon after by Hanno racing again in his single, losing out on a second gold by the smallest of margins.
Guy Jenkins and Adam Dalton raced in J15 'B' doubles (denoting that they have not yet won a race under the new British Rowing points system). They raced hard in their final, placing third and being awarded a bronze medal.
All of crews gave a good account of themselves both on and off the water. Congratulations to those who won medals.

Junior tennis festival
96 girls from seven schools played 126 sets of tennis at the St Peter's Junior Tennis Festival this week. The St Peter's U15 team were outright winners, with the U14s finishing fourth.

Athletics girls perform well at invitational competition
A number of our girls competed in Barnard Castle's invitational athletics meet last Saturday, at Eastbourne athletic track. They were competing against a number of schools from the North of England including: Sedbergh, RGS Newcastle, Newcastle High, Pocklington and Carmel College.
As well as a number of excellent individual performances (Angel Norza 1st in 100m, Maddie Wylie 2nd in 100m and 300m, Alicia Race 1st in High Jump) the girls put in some impressive overall team performances. The U14 team scored 70 and the U15 scored 63 points, earning them both second place finishes.
Tennis girls continue run of form
The girls’ tennis teams came up against tough competition in the shape of Ampleforth at the weekend. Despite the less than favourable weather, all the teams worked hard and won their matches.

Athletes impress at University competition
Our junior athletes produced some excellent individual performances at the University of York, with Alicia Race being selected to represent York & District in the High Jump. The girls are now preparing to compete at the Independent Schools Championships in Darlington on Saturday.
Cricketers edge thriller against Durham
In an exciting finish, the 1st XI chased down the Durham total of 167 with two balls remaining and no wickets left, whilst in the Yorkshire T20 Cup, the U15s continued their fine form with an excellent win over Pocklington.
Tennis girls beat Hymers in close contest
Great determination across the board saw our tennis teams achieve three victories and a draw against Hymers, with the first team emerging 5-4 winners.

Tennis girls win prestigious tournament
The Girls U18 1st tennis team have won the prestigious Bradford Grammar School tournament after beating Ampleforth in a tense final which went to a tiebreak. On the way, the team put together a string of impressive performances against ten of the best tennis schools in the North, dropping only one set in the group stage.
Promising start for tennis boys
In the North of England Independent Tennis Championships at Ampleforth College, the St Peter’s team reached the semi-finals, finishing equal third out of twenty strong schools.
The rest of the teams opened their campaign against Hymers with the 2nd team, U15s and U14s all claiming victory, before putting in some more strong performances in a series of close matches against Ampleforth.

Tennis girls start the season brightly
Three senior teams travelled to Sedbergh where performance and participation reflected a tremendous afternoon of high quality tennis. The 1st team were level at 3-3 coming into the final round of matches, before the final round, featuring tie breaks, saw the match finish 3-6 to Sedbergh.
In the 2nd team fixture, St Peter’s produced a fine 8-1 win and the 3rd team converted match points for a 5-4 win.
In the U14 Chapman cup, Izzy Greenwood and Hannah Aubrey represented the School brilliantly, emerging as outright winners in a competition that involves singles and doubles. The team competed against Queen Margaret’s, Ashville, Pocklington , King James and Queen Mary’s.
Strong start for rounders teams
In an excellent performance, the 1st XI beat Ampleforth 28-9, whilst the U15s also won, 20-8. In a hard-fought contest, the U14 team were beaten 19-14.
Tennis team overcome University of York
The 1st team had a tremendous win against the University of York in the opening match of the season, before enjoying some mixed doubles.

Rugby Sevens squad narrowly miss out on final
Our Rugby Sevens squad reached the semi-final stage of the HSBC Rosslyn Park Sevens tournament. After an impressive couple of days' Rugby, the team were within minutes of the final, before circumstances in other matches determined it was not to be. Read a full report here.
This was part of a successful Sevens season in which the U14s reached the final of the St Peter's Sevens, the U15s reached the final of the Barnard Castle Sevens and the U16s reached the final of the QEGS Plate.
Netball teams claim away victories at Queen Margaret's
Our netball teams enjoyed a fruitful trip to Queen Margaret's, coming away with some hard-earned victories, including a 36-17 win for the 1st team, a 23-18 for the 2nd team and 31-23 for the U14A team.
Swimmers end season on a high
The swimmers closed their season with a tremendous 151-101 win versus Ampleforth, making it 7 wins from 8 matches.
Temple crowned House Football champions
The inter-house football competition was played out in excellent spirit on the 4G pitches at Playfootball York, with some superb performances on the day. After a competitive afternoon, the final standings were Hope House in 3rd place, Manor House as runners-up and the 2017 champions were Temple House.

Netball teams crowned York & District Champions
The U15A and B teams have both won the York & District Netball competitions in convincing style, remaining unbeaten throughout the afternoon in both events. This is the 4th year in a row that our teams have claimed these titles.
In the school fixtures, all our teams played Hymers, with 8 out 10 securing victory, and in the inter-house tournament, Clifton came out on top by one goal.
Squash team cement position at top
The girls have held on to their place at the top of the York & District Ladies Division 3, with a 3-2 win against Stillington.
Swimmers continue to impress
The Swimming Team overcame Harrogate Ladies College on Tuesday, with a 123-107 win, whilst in the heats for Monday's inter-house finals, Katarina Bonner has broken two records in the individual medley and the 50m breast stroke.

Rowers impress at Yorkshire Head
Saturday 11th March saw the boat club again competing on our home water in the Yorkshire Head. The weather was perfect for the event, seasonally warm, low wind with sunny spells.
16 crews represented the school and all gave a good account of themselves against competition from as far away as Hampton School.
The boat club recorded 2 wins, an impressive feat against tough opposition, with numerous second and third placings in very large categories.
- Elliot Millman and Grayson Townend won J16 doubles
- Sophie Haslam, Alex Johnston, Katarina Bonner and Maddie Day won Open Womens Coxless Quads.
Congratulations to all pupils who competed and showed a professional attitude both on and off the water.
Footballers take maximum points
Victory over Ampleforth at the weekend means that our 1st XI football team have now won nine out of nine matches this season.

Netball teams edge close encounter with Sedbergh
Seven out of our ten netball teams secured victories in one of the toughest fixtures on the school circuit. The 1st team were outstanding, signalling their intent from the first quarter and maintaining this high level throughout the game to win 39-31. The 2nd V11 showed great tenacity and self- belief, recovering from a losing position to give their best performance of the season so far.
The teams then followed this up with a clean sweep of results at home to Ampleforth midweek.
Hockey stars' progression continues
Emilia Proctor and Amelia Blackburn have both been selected through the Northern Performance Centre of Excellence to compete for the chance to represent the North of England team.
Hockey teams battle hard for results
The Boys' 1st XI continued their successful season with an impressive point against the University of York's 1st team, earned by plenty of hard work both with and without the ball. Elsewhere the 2nd team and junior squads achieved some great results against Ashville.
Swimming team beat Pocklington
An excellent performance in the pool gave the girls' swimming team a 155-137 victory against Pocklington.
Sevens team are runners up in Wakefield Plate competition
Our U16 Rugby Sevens team performed superbly at the QEGS Wakefield Sevens tournament, finishing runners up for the Plate.
The 1st VII travelled to the Hymers Sevens competition, where they made it to the final but lost out to a strong Sedbergh side, 21-17.

Netball teams' fine form continues
The Netball teams achieved a superb clean sweep against Pocklington at the weekend, and followed it up with some more impressive play against Yarm, A committed display earned the 1st team a marginal 32-27 victory.
Squash team top division
Two 5-0 victories this week, against Dunnington and Wiggington, mean that our squash team are currently top of their division.

Our swimming team narrowly beat Queen Margaret's in a nail-biting match, winning at last by a score of 112-111.
Squash team claim impressive victory
The Girls' Squash team have continued to impress in the York Ladies league, producing an excellent performance to beat the University of York's team 4-1.
Rugby Sevens team tournament-ready
The Senior Sevens team enjoyed a successful run-out at the warm up tournament in Durham, beating the hosts, Sedbergh and RGS Newcastle.
Netball teams' progress continues
For the second week in a row, ten netball teams took to the courts on Saturday afternoon. The 1st and 2nd VIIs played fast, effective netball against a determined RGS Newcastle. Turning over key centres to establish early leads in the first quarters proved decisive in securing this result to mark the midpoint in the season. Alongside RGS, great promise was shown by our teams in matches against Giggleswick and Scarborough College.

Brave Rugby team bow out to Wellington
Our U15 Rugby team performed valiantly, but were beaten by an outstanding Wellington XV in the Quarter Final of the Natwest Schools Cup, 41-13.
Hockey team become regional champions
The Boys' Hockey 1st XI have won the Yorkshire County Hockey Tournament. They will now represent the region on the national stage.

Footballers still going strong
On Saturday, the footballers continued their strong start to the season in matches against Ackworth School. The 2nd XI ran out comfortable winners 5-0 with Theo Hedley and Chris Hall getting two goals each. The 1st XI enjoyed the same 5-0 scoreline with goals from Burdass, Ubhi, Van der Borgh and two for Peter Konstantinov.
Yesterday the 2nd XI travelled away to Fulneck and suffered a 6-2 defeat, whilst the 3rd XI hosted Rishworth 2nds and enjoyed a well-deserved 6-3 victory.
St Peter's star shines on the national stage
Promising footballer Gabriel McGill has continued to impress for the Independent Schools Football Association U16 team, opening the scoring at the weekend in a 2-0 victory over the Everton U16 team.

Busy afternoon of Netball vs Ashville
The netball season is now in full swing, with ten St Peter's teams competing against Ashville on a sunny February afternoon, with seven claiming victories and all teams putting in a strong performance.
The 1st team handled the pace and pressure of their high-tempo match well to win 29-23. In an end-to-end contest, the composure of the St Peter's girls won the day in the decisive final quarter.

Netball teams put in strong performance at regional finals
The U19s, representing the County and School at the National Schools tournament on Saturday, played with discipline and high intensity. Their through-court, attacking play enabled them to contest with the strongest regional teams in end-to-end matches. In the seven matches played, their performances pressured the opposition through to the final whistle, in a display of netball showing clear progression. An excellent run from a skillful and committed team.
In the U14 competition, the team were stricken by illness, but despite this, their resilience was clearly evident and they played with positivity and drive to put into practice the principles of play they had practiced in the weeks leading to the event. A huge effort by the girls.

Strong start to football season continues
A dominant display saw the 1st XI run out 5-0 winners over Ampleforth at the weekend, with a Ted Patmore header the pick of the goals. A first half hat-trick from Matt Ubhi helped the 2nd XI to a 3-1 win, and an exciting contest saw the 3rd XI win 4-3.
In the midweek fixture against Fulneck, another Ubhi hat-trick helped the 2nd XI take a comprehensive 7-2 victory.

Footballers enjoy tight encounter with Woodhouse Grove
The 1st XI overcame a strong Woodhouse Grove team to secure a 1-0 victory, with Charlie Rae putting in a Man of the Match performance. The 2nd team also battled hard to earn a 2-2 draw.
U15 Rugby stars reach quarter finals
Our U15 Rugby team have reached the quarter finals of the Natwest Cup after a terrific 15-10 victory over QEGs Wakefield. The team now moves into the last eight in the country, with the draw to take place on 24 Jan.

New netball season underway
The new netball season began with ten teams competing on the opening Saturday, with the 1st, 2nd, U15A and U14A teams travelling to Newcastle High and the remaining teams hosting Worksop at home.
The 1st VII played with pace and accuracy to control the court and come away with a 34-19 win against impressive opposition. The U15A and U14A teams were able to achieve the same outcome, in games that were high in both tempo and quality.
At home, the 3rds gained great experience facing the Worksop 1st team, and the 4ths against the Worksop 2nds, with the 4ths managing to secure an impressive victory.

Footballers triumph in six-a-side competition
The St Peter's footballers got their season underway with a successful afternoon at Roko in Clifton Moor. Competing with Ampleforth, Barnard Castle, Bootham, Hull Collegiate and Woodhouse Grove, the A team went unbeaten to win the cup competition, and the B team emerged victorious in the plate competition.
Tennis stars set to face Scottish champions
Our tennis team have progressed to the last 16 in the country in the LTA Senior Schools Tennis Competition. They will now play the Scottish champions, Strathallan School, in the coming weeks.

Successful campaign for hockey girls
It has been a very successful hockey season for the girls this term. The U18’s, U16’s & U14’s all reached the semi-finals of the North East Round of the National Schools Competition, narrowly missing places in the North, through either penalty flicks or one goal.
On the school fixture list the 1st XI have lost just two, the 2nd XI have won their North Independent Schools League, the 3rd XI have had an unbeaten season for the third year in a row and we have again fielded strong 4th and 5th teams.
Netball teams looking to new year
In the netball National Schools Competition, the U14's, U16's & U19's all reached the County Rounds, with the U14's & U19's progressing into the North Regional finals, taking place in January, the last step to the national finals.
Tennis and squash teams still on top form
The girls' 1st team tennis squad has also been in action in the National Schools Competition and they compete again in January in the last 32, whilst the squash team are currently top of their league, remaining unbeaten this season.

Rugby 1st XV celebrate unbeaten season
The 1st XV rounded off an outstanding season with a 15-11 win against Pocklington, securing their status as unbeaten in every Saturday fixture this season and an impressive fourth-placed finish in the National Daily Mail Trophy League.

Hockey season draws to a close
The girls' hockey season concluded with a series of fantastic performances, as the second, third, U15a and U15b team all won by convincing margins against tough Pocklington opposition. The U14a and U14b teams also achieved hard-fought 2-1 victories, whilst the first team enjoyed a close contest, finishing at 2-2.
Outstanding running secures rugby victory
The first team produced some fantastic running rugby to score 66 unanswered points against Bradford Grammar. A positive result against Pocklington would now ensure an unbeaten season in Saturday fixtures.
Rowers impress at Newark Head
27 pupils attended Newark Head on Saturday, a return to the race after a 10 year break. The pupils were a credit to the school, rigging efficiently with limited space and all getting boated on time.
All of the crews gave a good account of themselves on the challenging, twisty course, with six from twelve St Peter's crews emerging victorious - congratulations to scullers Jack Coulthard and Kat Bonner, and crews: Boys J16 coxless quad, Boys J15 coxed quad, Women’s intermediate 3 double, and Boys J16 double.
Well done to all St Peter's crews and a thank you from the staff for making the day so efficient and successful.
Tennis stars edge closer to final
Our boys' tennis stars have reached the last 16 of the LTA Senior Students Competition. A victory against Egglescliffe School at the start of next term would see them just one match away from the national final in March.

Tennis girls through to knockout rounds
The girls' tennis team produced a fine display to beat Durham Johnstone 6-0 and progress to the knockout rounds of the National Schools Senior Students Competition.
Squash team continue unbeaten run
The squash team showed great commitment and teamwork to beat the University of York's 1st team 4-1 and continue their excellent form.
St Peter's claims cross-country victories
St Peter's runners performed outstandingly at the York Schools Cross-Country Championships at the Knavesmire.
In wet, windy and muddy conditions, our Inter Boys and Inter Girls teams both finished first in the team events, with our Junior Boys and Junior Girls finishing third and fourth respectively.
15 pupils have been selected to represent York schools at the Yorkshire Schools event in January.

Rowers perform strongly at York Head
The Boat Club had a small but dedicated core of rowers competing in the annual York Small Boats Head on Sunday 20th November.
The Fifth and Sixth Form boys combined to produce 3 competitively matched boats that raced in a category dominated by University rowers. Despite not winning, their times showed they have developed well, with more to come.
The Sixth Form girls’ double of Sophie-Rose Haslam and Katarina Bonner however, delivered a superb victory. A combination of their experience and dedication produced a winning margin in excess of 30 seconds that was well deserved.
After a difficult year last year, the Fourth Form boys and girls took the opportunity to gain valuable water time. The Quad of Joe Johnson, Guy Jenkins, Andrew Liang and Nick New coxed by James Connolly, the Double of Freddie Dorling and AJ Coates and the Girls Double of Lottie McKelvie and Valentina Cross experienced the competitive nature of Head racing for the first time. Despite their inexperience, they performed well in a strong field and returned to row again.
These results provide the Boat Club with a great platform to build on for our next event at Newark Head on Saturday 3rd December.
Positive signs at GB Rowing Trials
On a still and clear morning, Jack Coulthard represented St Peter’s at his first GB Rowing trials in Boston, Lincolnshire. Up against 120 of the country’s top junior oarsmen, Jack raced hard, placing 44th, a strong performance in this new environment and less than 15 seconds away from placing in the 20s. His focus now moves on to the next round of assessment in February, where we are sure his performance will move on.

Netball teams set to represent the county
Our Under 14 and U19 netball teams have successfully qualified from the County Round to represent North Yorkshire in the Regional Finals of the National Schools Competition in January. Despite the Under 16s narrowly missing out with a fourth place finish, St Peter's was the only school to be represented in all three age groups, a tremendous achievement given the teams are currently playing out of season.
Hockey teams enjoy successful weekend
The Under 14s Hockey team performed brilliantly to reach the semi finals of the Hockey National Schools Competition on Saturday, whilst the first XI claimed victory this weekend, beating Hymers 5-2 in a high-tempo contest.
Rugby team hold on for win over RGS
A magnificent defensive performance saw the first XV repel a persistent RGS Newcastle attack to hold on for a well-earned 17-15 win.
Boys' tennis teams top their group
In the regional rounds of the Senior Student AEGON Competition, the St Peter's team won each of their doubles and singles matches against Greenhead College, Huddersfield. After topping their group with a 100% record, the boys will now progress into the knockout rounds.
Swimming team impress at Stonyhurst
A mixed swimming team represented St Peter's at the John Parry Relays, achieving some encouraging results. In the medley relays, our U15 girls finished fifth, with our U15 boys and U18 girls finishing 4th. In the free relays, both the U15 boys and U18 girls finished 5th.

Rugby team complete half term clean sweep
Another impressive performance from the first XV ensured a 53-5 win over St Ambrose, meaning that the team have now played seven and won seven in the matches leading up to half term.
The other Rugby squads also put in some strong performances this weekend, including 41-0 win over Ampleforth for the third XV and a 39-0 triumph for the U16B team against Stonyhurst.
Hockey teams in close battle with RGS
The first XI and second XI each worked hard for 1-1 draws with RGS Newcastle this weekend. With the exception of a 7-0 victory for the third team, every match in this contest was extremely close.
Success in Modern Biathlon Championships
Congratulations to Katarina Bonner, who qualified for the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships by winning the Yorkshire Region over the weekend. Katarina placed first in both the swimming and running to win the overall trophy.
House Cross Country results
Each of our houses took part in a Cross Country competition, with impressive performances from everyone involved.
In the Junior Girls race, Phoebe Holmes claimed victory, whilst Grove won the house race. Ben Hobbs won the Junior Boys Race, with Queens collecting the House trophy.
Maddie Bennison came first in the Senior Girls race, whilst School took the house victory, and Charles Barry won the Senior Boys race, as Clifton house won overall.

Girls' Hockey teams' form continues
With both the U14 and U16 squads progressing from the County Round, all three Girls' Hockey squads have now secured their place in the North East Round of the National Schools Competition.
Netball teams achieve clean sweep
The U14 Netball team have qualified for the County Round of the National Schools Competition, joining the U16 and U19 teams. All three teams were unbeaten in the qualifying area rounds.
Rugby team into Round Three of Natwest U18 Cup
Our first XV ran out 21-16 winners over Pocklington in a close match to secure their passage into the third round, where they will face QEGS Wakefield at home.

Rugby teams claim victories over QEGS
Our Rugby teams were on great form this weekend, securing eight wins and one draw against QEGS Wakefield.
The first XV's performance was a particular highlight, as three excellent tries rounded off a 24-19 victory over strong opposition.
Girls' Hockey teams enjoy close contest with Ampleforth
In a series of well-fought matches with Ampleforth, the First, Second and 15A teams all claimed victories, whilst our other teams showed great promise against tough opposition.
Boat Club's season off to a fine start
The Boat Club enjoyed a successful first away trip of the year at the Ancholme Head in Brigg.
Racing over two divisions, there were wins for the Fifth Form Boys' Coxless Quad, whose time of 10 minutes and 10 seconds for the 2,700m course placed them second overall.
Equally impressive were Jack Coulthard in the J18 single sculls and Katarina Bonner in the women's novice sculls. Not only did they each win their individual category, but both proved to be the fastest male and female single scullers of the day.
This success was rounded off by wins for both the Senior Women's double scull of Sophie-Rose Haslam and Maddie Day, and the Fourth Form Boys double scull of Joe Johnson and Andrew Liang.
Many other strong performances were registered across the Boat Club - an encouraging start to the year.

This week is Women in Sport week, and our sporting stars have certainly risen to the occasion:
Girls' Hockey team's progress continues
The U18 girls emerged as winners in the National Schools Hockey Country Round, and will go on to play in the North East Round.
After draws against Queen Ethelburga's and Ripon Grammar, the team produced three impressive victories against Ampleforth, Scarborough College and Queen Margaret's to secure their passsage to the next stage.
U16 Netball team reach County Round
The U16 girls have won the National Schools Area Tournament without losing a single game. They now join the U19s in the County Round, with the U14s hoping to join them as they begin their campaign this Saturday.
Squash team enjoy tight contest with Ampleforth
Ten of our squash players were in action on Wednesday against Ampleforth Boys. Despite Olivia Whitehouse producing a fine performance to beat their number one, Ampleforth edged to victory.

Netball team storm through to County Round
The U19s have won the area tournament of the National Schools Netball Competition, scoring 93 goals and conceding only 11 on the way. They will now seek similar success in the County Round.

Girls' Hockey First XI dig deep against Worksop
After going behind against a strong Worksop side, the First XI showed terrific determination and resilience to mount a late comeback and earn a 1-1 draw.
Girls' Hockey teams through to next round of national competition
The Girls' Hockey U14 team have joined the U18 and U16 teams in reaching the County round of the National School Tournament. All three teams will now compete for a place to represent the county in the North East rounds.

Girls' Hockey team secures win over Giggleswick
Dynamic forward play and excellent movement off the ball saw the 1st XI claim a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Giggleswick. The 2nd team followed suit, striking goal 7 times, whilst the 4th team saw off Giggleswick's 3rd 1-0.
It was a similar story in the junior games, with the U15A team also winning 6-1, whilst both U14 teams showed great promise in two well-fought draws.
Boys' Rugby team claim victory against Durham
In a performance characterised by some resilient defending and a great deal of determination, the 1st XV scored five unanswered tries against a strong Durham side to secure an impressive 29-0 triumph.
The Girls' Hockey 1st XI ran out 7-1 winners over Ashville this weekend; a composed performance with a strong defensive press and plenty of pace up front secured the result.

Girls' Hockey 1st XI secure comfortable victory against Ashville
The Girls' Hockey 1st XI ran out 7-1 winners over Ashville this weekend; a composed performance with a strong defensive press and plenty of pace up front secured the result.
This was just one of four victories for the five senior squads on Saturday, whilst the U15A team also beat Ashville by a score of 4-1.
Strong start to the season for Boys' Rugby Team
The Boy's Rugby first XV have won both of their opening fixtures for this season. A hard-fought 18-11 victory over Woodhouse Grove was followed this weekend by a 56-0 triumph over Ampleforth.

Girls' Hockey Team are U18 Area Champions
The U18s qualified for the County Round of the National Schools Tournament, progressing as area winners on Wednesday 14th September. Playing Queen Margaret’s in the final, the team fought very hard in hot conditions, scoring in the last 5 minutes . Displaying tremendous team work and determination, the girls were deserved 1-0 winners. The county round will take place on October 5th .
Some highlights from the school circuit so far have been a fantastic 5-0 win for the 2nd X1 against GSAL 2nds, and the juniors have played some very promising hockey against Hill House.
After some fine performances saw them reach the knockout stages of the AEGON National Tennis Competition, our U14 tennis players bowed out against a very strong Hymers college team.
