In response to the global coronavirus outbreak, we have implemented a strict visitor policy to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the whole school community. We ask that all non-essential visitors also stay away from the school at this time. If your visit is essential, please read our visitor policy before you visit the school.

St Peter's 13-18

28 February 2020

You will be aware that we sent a new update to parents yesterday afternoon.  We continue to monitor the situation regularly and are taking the advice of Public Health England, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and recommendations that have been made by the Boarding School Association, to ensure the health of the whole school community, including pupils.

I appreciate the concern that can be caused by what is clearly a dynamic situation with many sources of media reporting and I am especially aware of those whose Easter holiday plans have had to change and those boarders who are not able to see their families for several months.  It is a fast-moving situation and we may have to make further updates and in doing so we will be making use of the best and most robust advice available.

What is very important is that we all maintain a calm and measured approach and I want to remind you about my words before half term that making unnecessary or unkind comments linked to this is completely unacceptable.  Far better to adopt a practical approach and do those things which assist hygiene and avoid catching and spreading germs:

  • Do cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • Do put used tissues in the bin immediately
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
  • Do wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.  Especially before going into the dining room, after games and obviously after going to the loo.
