Wisdom: To develop enquiring minds and a lifelong love of learning, and provide the inspiration to achieve, through creative teaching and a breadth of co-curricular opportunity.

(St Peter’s School – The Seven Values)

At St Peter’s School we aim to inspire and challenge our pupils both in and out of the classroom. Our Academic Extension programme allows all pupils to get the very best out of themselves and their learning environment. We see this programme as being inclusive and not exclusive, so that all pupils’ strengths and interests can be identified in order for their learning to be enriched beyond the classroom.

We want to encourage our pupils to explore subjects and to be pushed not only academically, but also to understand how to take ownership of their own learning - to become independent thinkers. At the heart of this will be a love for learning and thirst for knowledge.

At St Peter’s, our Academic Extension programme is vast, encompassing many aspects outside of the classroom. These include clubs, societies, trips, departmental publications and public lectures.  Pupils in the Fourth Form study a ‘Horizons’ course and in the Upper Sixth, pupils take a weekly lesson in ‘Global Perspectives.’ Both these school-created courses encourage the broadening of horizons beyond pupils’ exam syllabuses, through discussion, debate and engagement with ideas. At St Peter’s we also run a very successful Sixth Form Lecture programme and an Exploration week for our A Level pupils.

Discover more about our new Sixth Form Speaks lecture series, which invites our Sixth Formers to talk to our staff and pupils on some of their own experiences.
