St Peter's 13-18
Today four Design and Technology pupils received their DT Awards for outstanding work.
Our Fourth Form Design and Technology pupils were eager to get back into the workshop after lockdown and have completed some fantastic work since returning to school.
The pupils each made a USB-powered desk lamp. Ms Staniforth said the pupils have really enjoyed the multi-disciplinary processes in this project. To create their lamps they shaped their moulds to vacuum form; casted their Jesmonite bases; laminated their plywood veneer stands; 3D printed their shades and soldered their circuits up in the final assembly!
Best Portfolio went to Maggie, Edison won the Design Risk Taker Award, Sophia won the GRIT Award, and Meriel received the Best Executed Product Award.
"I'm really happy with what I've managed to create... it is a good learning experience in perseverance and how to overcome obstacles" - Maggie
"It's fun to build something different" - Edison
"I overcame the challenges and was happy with the outcome" - Sophia
"The process was tiring but seeing the final product was rewarding" - Meriel
Ms Staniforth said "The pupils should be proud of their achievements in the creation of their USB powered desk lamps.
"Mr Searle and I have been really impressed with their efforts and are looking forward to what this cohort will go on to achieve in their GCSE Non-Examined Assessments.''
