St Peter's 13-18
On 15- 16 July, 14 cadets took part in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Annual Camp.
Due to Covid restrictions the cadets had a shorter two day camp, with a day training at Driffield Training Area followed by an overnight camp on the school grounds. Under the instructions of the regional Cadet Training Team, cadets took part in a range of activities including firing paintball guns on a Close Quarter Battle (CQB) range, a field gun assembling challenge, map reading exercise and fieldcraft lessons.
On return from Driffield the cadets set up camp on the school ground and enjoyed some command task activities followed by an impromptu game of football. The next morning, cadets attempted the military swim test and learned how to cross water obstacles whilst keeping their equipment and weapons dry. This was followed by a visit from Yorkshire Dales Bushcraft, who spent the day introducing cadets to various bushcraft and survival skills, such as primitive fire lighting techniques, gutting and cooking rainbow trout and baking bread with only basic ingredients.
The cadets demonstrated excellent teamwork during all of the challenges presented to them, and learned a range of new skills as well as having chance to practise some of what they have learned this year.
