Stargazing Live Party 2014

The next event in the St Peters School Public Lecture Programme is the Stargazing Live Party to be held on 10th January, 2014.

This event is being run with the kind Support of The Institute of Physics, The Rotary Club of York Vikings, The Ogden Trust and the St. Peter’s School Foundation.

Stargazing 2014 event posterFollowing the success of last year’s Stargazing Live programmes on the BBC with Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain Stargazing LIVE is back for 2014 with transmission provisionally scheduled for the 8th-9th January. The themes of the three programmes are Space Weather, Space Exploration and the Milky Way and other galaxies.

St Peter’s School is again going to be holding a Stargazing Live Party on Friday 10th January 2014 from 5.30 pm onwards in the Queen Anne Dining room at St. Olave’s School.  As last year, the evening will constitute an Astronomy/Physics exhibition (including mobile planetarium), exhibitors, telescope retailers, hands on things to do and some Astro Magic. This will be followed by a Lecture at 7.00pm (in the Memorial Hall) followed by an opportunity to look through a host of Telescopes.

We are delighted that Mark Thompson, "The Peoples' Astronomer", will be joining us for the evening and to give the lecture. Mark is one of the presenters on the RTS nominated show Stargazing LIVE which is now in its fourth year, and has inspired in excess of 4 million viewers to get out and enjoy the night sky. He is also a specialist presenter on the Alan Titchmarsh show and a regular on Radio Five Live, Five News, BBC News as well  Ch 4 documentaries.

The title of his talk will be 'A Voyage of Discovery’. Copies of Mark’s Book: ‘A Down to Earth Guide to the Cosmos’ will be available at a discounted price for purchase on the evening.
