Co-Curricular 2-8

In St Peter's 2-8

To complement our dynamic curriculum, we offer a vibrant co-curricular programme, ensuring that every child finds something they can be brilliant at.

Music

Talented musicians are encouraged to develop their skills outside the classroom. Individual instrumental lessons in violin, piano and guitar are offered from Year 2, and Year 3 have taster sessions in strings, woodwind and brass once a week. Pupils can take up the recorder from Reception.

The School Choir is represented by pupils from Years 2 and 3. They perform throughout the year at various venues and events including the School Christingle Service, the St Peter’s Whole Foundation Concert and the world’s biggest school choir event at Sheffield Arena.

Everybody is welcome to perform in our Christmas Plays, End of Year Concerts, and the hugely popular St Peter's Got Talent.

Sport

Sport competitions provide an excellent opportunity for the children to practise their skills in a competitive yet supportive environment. Inter-House competitions take place at the end of each half term for both Year 2 and 3, whilst all Year 3 children experience playing as part of a team in Inter-School fixtures.

We also celebrate our young athletes with three whole school events each year including a Charity Colour Run, Swimming Gala and Sports Day.

School Council

Our children take a leading role in influencing aspects of school life that are important to them. Made up of 12 elected pupils, two from each class in Years 1-3, the School Council meets weekly to discuss with staff any concerns they might have. Pupils are welcome to leave notes in a box by the entrance which are collected for consideration by the Council. Our School Councilors enjoy the responsibility, helping to organise major events in the school calendar.

 Community Action

Our children are taught that acts of kindness can make a big difference to themselves and others. We regularly hold fundraising events and engage with the local community. Recent examples include intergenerational music workshops in care homes, reverse advent calendars for the homeless, charity cake sales and much more.

Environment

Led by our Green Team and the School Council, our children enthusiastically take the initiative in looking after our environment and helping us to be a more sustainable school. They recently pursued a campaign to stop the use of single-use plastic bottles at school. This has led to our Eco-Schools Silver Award – we’re now working towards the Green Flag.
