Eco Schools

IMG 0144

Lead by our Green Team and the School Council, our children enthusiastically take the initiative in looking after our environment and helping us to be a more sustainable school. This has lead to our Eco Schools Silver Award – we’re now working towards the Green Flag.

Our Eco Schools motto is STRIVE:

S - save energy and water
T- turn off lights, taps and computers
R - reduce, reuse and recycle
I - inspire others to do the same
V - value your school grounds & environment
E - eat healthily and exercise

Growing Our Own

Each year, the School Council plant potatoes, lettuce, onions and beans, to introduce everybody to the wonder of growing your own food. We have also made a greenhouse from 2,000 recycled fizzy drinks bottles where we have grown tomatoes and cucumbers.

The Bug Hotel

Bug hotel
In 2016, the children built a bug hotel from various recycled materials, in which miniature wildlife can live and hibernate. Complementing our Forest School programme, such projects are a fun and collaborative way for our pupils to learn more about bugs and their importance in our environment.

Food Waste Monitoring

Children at St Peter's understand the environmental impact of wasted food, and thanks to the efforts of both children and staff alike, we have been able to significantly reduce the amount of food wasted each lunchtime. Year Three’s posters reminding us all of this remain proudly on the walls of our dining room.
