St Olave’s cricket team have secured victory in the 2019 IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) Under 13 Cricket Tournament.
The team played St Paul's Prep School in the semi-final of the tournament. St Olave’s batted first and set the opposition 131 to win. Our boys won the match by 19 runs in a highly skilled and hard fought game.
Moving into the final, St Olave’s were up against Millfield Prep School. St Olave’s bowled Millfield out for 96 and managed to chase the score down with three overs and four wickets to spare, winning the match and becoming National Champions. Incredibly this is now the second year in a row St Olave’s have won the tournament, defending their title as national champions.
The boys played some fabulous cricket over the course of the day, having to adapt and change their style of play accordingly; displaying all of their skills and understanding of the game with maturity and decision-making beyond their years. Every member of the side contributed to the victory and it is the culmination of lots of hard work and dedication from everyone involved.
Gareth Sharp, Head of Boys' Games at St Olave’s, said: “This is a great win and as defending champions, we are delighted to have won back to back years. We are extremely proud of the boys and really look forward to seeing them progress and develop as cricketers and young men.”
Nathan Savage, Head of Sport at St Olave's, said: "This is the culmination of the hard work that the boys' have put in, the cricket programme at St Olave's and the dedication of many members of staff over five years. Their resilience as a team drove them forward on finals day."
St Olave’s have now been asked to host the IAPS tournament finals next year at St Peter’s - a real honour and recognition of not only cricket at our school but also our grounds team who have maintained a superb pitch in what has been a challenging summer.
