J2 Theatre workshop

As part of our partnership with the revamped York Theatre Royal, the J2 children have enjoyed an exciting day of theatrical fun.

Featuring around WiLD!, the story of 10 year old Billy who has ADHD, the morning workshops began with a series of activities that really helped the children to empathise with Billy. The pupils spent the morning discussing a selection of key words: normal; different; nature and nurture with some thoughtful and interesting responses.

The session also explored the relationship between the main characters, their reactions and feelings and how they changed. The pupils then saw a professional performance of WiLd!.

J2 teacher Jo Brooks said: “We had great fun creating physical impressions of the characters we would meet! We then put ourselves in Billy's shoes and considered the part we all have to play in creating the right kind of classroom environment for those who find things difficult; there were some really heart-felt responses.

WiLd unravelled with such energy and emotion that we were completely spellbound. Billy, played by Rhys Warrington, gave such an energetic, physical performance that we all connected with the character and his emotions.”
