In Admissions

Our mission is to prepare pupils for confident, successful and fulfilled adult lives and to make a positive impact on their world.

We achieve this through our Four Keysqualificationsskillsinterests and values. Together, these pillars prepare our pupils for life beyond school, encouraging, nurturing and challenging them to maximise their potential.

Year 12 at St Peter's School

We offer a wide curriculum of A Level subjects with the teaching extending far beyond the classroom. Pupils learn independent study skills and are encouraged to research widely around the core subjects. Trips, guest speakers and competitions are popular ways for a full immersion into topics.

For a detailed overview of the A Level curriculum, and more detail on Sixth Form please click here.

As important as academic results are, we place a great deal of importance on fostering skills, interests and values. Peterites have a spark, they love to try new things and throw themselves into school life. This prepares them well for adult life beyond school, whether at university or beyond.

We know that Sixth Form years can sometimes have stressful moments for young people so our outstanding pastoral approaches are there to nurture and guide. Our Day and Boarding House system is at the heart of  all we do, working alongside wider health and wellbeing services.

The Application Process

Before applying, we warmly invite you to join us for one of our Open Events or arrange a visit to explore the School and discover what it means to be part of the St Peter’s School community.

If you’d like to visit us multiple times before you apply, please do! We encourage you to visit as much as you like so you can get to know us and be confident in your decision.

Please Note: outside of the main entry points (which are Nursery, Reception, Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. Year 4 is the entry year for York Minster Choristers), most of our year groups are oversubscribed with limited places or are already operating a waiting list. Please contact our Admissions Team for more information before applying for other year groups.

If you are ready to apply, please complete our online application form. Upon receipt of your application a member of the admissions team will be in touch to guide you through the process.

The application deadline for Lower Sixth is 31 October for entry the following September. If this deadline has passed, please contact us to discuss further.

Boarding options are available. If you are interested in boarding, please indicate using the options available on the application form.

We offer Help with Fees for applicants for Year 7 and above. If you are interested in finding out more, please see our dedicated page.

Apply Now

The Entrance Exam for those wishing to join the Lower Sixth takes place in November each year. Candidates applying for Lower Sixth are assessed in their preferred subjects for A-level, in addition to completing an interview. Reports, references and predicted grades are requested from the current school and are taken into account.

Our minimum academic requirement for entry to the Sixth Form is six GCSE at grade 6 or equivalent. However, entry is extremely competitive and in most circumstances, it is likely that candidates will need to perform well above this level to be successful in securing a place.

Overseas Assessments

Overseas candidates who are unable to attend at St Peter’s on entrance exam day may make arrangements to take their tests closer to home. Our Admissions Team will be pleased to provide advice and guidance in making these arrangements.

We will generally let you know about the outcome of your application within two weeks of the entrance exam.

We may choose to make a firm offer or a conditional offer.  Where a conditional offer is made, the candidate must meet any specified criteria – such as achieving certain grades at GCSE – before the place can be confirmed.
