St Peter's has embarked on an ambitious programme of investment designed to safeguard our heritage and strengthen our educational provision for generations to come.
St Peter’s School has evolved continuously since its foundation in AD627. As we approach our 1,400th anniversary and celebrate 50 years of co-education, we are investing in the future to ensure the school continues to thrive.
Strong pupil numbers and an excellent reputation mean we can plan confidently despite sector-wide challenges, including VAT on school fees, business rates and rising costs. Our Whole School Strategic Plan sets out how we will continue to deliver outstanding education for generations to come.
A key part of our future strategy is the move from a three-school model to a two-school structure (St Peter’s Junior School and St Peter’s Senior School) by September 2026. This streamlined structure will create a seamless journey from Nursery to Sixth Form, improve efficiency, and support major campus investment, including a new Sixth Form Centre and new on-campus Nursery for children from 6 months - 3 years.
This transformation will strengthen academic, pastoral and co-curricular continuity, unlocking new opportunities for pupils and families.

“St Peter’s has been in existence for nearly 1400 years and one of the reasons behind our long and successful history is our ability to change, adapt and evolve to the world we live in.
I am very excited about the new structure which will give the best possible opportunities to our own pupils and their families, and make the most of our wonderful campus”.

The new two-school structure is a key part of St Peter’s Strategic Development Plan, focused on educational excellence and long-term affordability. Progress is already underway, including capital development projects, a new leadership structure and the opening of our first St Peter’s International School to grow revenue beyond school fees.
This change aims to enhance the experience of pupils and their families. We are working with local architects, brown + company, to explore how best to repurpose facilities across our beautiful 50-acre campus in the heart of York.
Senior Leadership
As we progress towards a two school structure, Jeremy Walker will continue to be Head Master of the entirety of St Peter's. Phil Hardy will be Head of the Junior School with Antonia Clarke as Senior Deputy of the Junior School.
