Christmas

Pupils at St Peter’s School, York, celebrated the end of the Christmas term with a range of events and activities this year.

The children at St Peter’s 2-8 created Christmas crafts and wrote letters to Father Christmas. Year 2 created Christmas tree decorations, cards and crackers as part of their Victorian theme and all children at St Peter’s 2-8 enjoyed a Christmas Craft Day on 16 December. Nursery and Reception even baked their own Christmas cakes to take home at the end of term.

The children at St Peter’s 2-8 have also been perfecting their singing and acting skills this term, with fantastic Christmas plays and the popular House Singing competition on the final day of term. This year’s Christmas plays included ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘On a Starry Night’, ‘Ralph the Dinodeer’, ‘Bah Humbug’ and ‘Cinderella and Rockerfella’.

St Peter’s 8-13 began their calendar of Christmas events with a phenomenal Christmas concert on 29 November, featuring children from all year groups, and the musical celebrations continued in the last week of term. Pupils busked in the foyer for charity every day from 13-16 December, the whole school community joined together on 15 December for Carols by Candlelight, and the staff sang carols outside on 17 December to welcome pupils to school for the final day of term.

The children at St Peter’s 8-13 have also been collecting toys and gifts for The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal as well as enjoying Christmas crafts in their Art and Design lessons. J2 even had the opportunity to bake some delicious Christmas cookies to take home.

St Peter’s 13-18 made a spectacular return to the stage with their annual Christmas play, performed over three nights from 1-3 December. This year’s production was Les Misérables and the cast and crew put on an incredible production, performed in front of a sell-out audience.

The St Peter’s 13-18 Christmas Concerts on 9 and 10 December were equally popular, featuring the Wind and Swing Bands, School Choir, Clarinet Choir, Little Big Band and both Girls’ and Boys’ Barbershops.

The final week of term included a range of exciting Christmas activities for the pupils at St Peter’s 13-18. The Boathouse hosted a Christmas Rowing Competition, the Library organised a Literary Christmas Quiz, the monitors enjoyed a festive Escape Room challenge and all pupils at St Peter’s 13-18 had the opportunity to attend the incredibly entertaining annual Christmas Science Lecture.

The school community also gathered to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with a number of special services, including the Advent Service on Monday 6 December in the School Chapel and two services in York Minster on 16 and 17 December, a wonderful way to mark the end of term.
