Some of our Sixth Form Linguists recently took part in SCOOP!, an exciting journalism challenge run by Business Language Champions. The day was fast-paced, fun, and intellectually demanding, giving students the chance to put their foreign language skills to the test in a real-world context.
Working under pressure, they collaborated with peers from other schools to create a front page for a foreign-language newspaper, demonstrating flexibility, creativity, and teamwork. They also heard from Simon Hart, a UEFA journalist, who shared insights into what makes a great news story and the realities of working in international media, plus how studying languages has helped him stand out in his career and access amazing opportunities that wouldn't have happened otherwise.
We are proud to share that one of our teams, featuring Róísín and Olivia, came second overall, and Seb received a special judges’ individual prize.
This event was a fantastic opportunity for students to see how language learning connects to global careers, and we are looking forward to many more experiences like this for all year groups. Keep an eye out for our upcoming RAF Science and Languages Day in January for Year 10, another chance to explore the exciting intersection of languages and future pathways!
