St Peter's School
The School has its own indoor-heated swimming pool within the school grounds which is open to use by pupils and staff. Opened in September 2011 by Olympic diver Tom Daley, this brand new, state-of-the-art, 25m six lane pool was built on the site of the existing pool.
Swimming is an option for all boys from Third Form, and early morning training sessions are also run twice a week. The School has an excellent link with York City Swimming Club who use the school swimming pool for training every day and weekends. Any talented swimmers are encouraged to join York City Swimming Club to take advantage of the coaches and competition they offer.
On the girls’ programme swimming is also an option for all the Third Form and throughout the school, running three times a week. A strong swimming team also trains on a Monday and Tuesday with swimming fixtures running across two terms and the school also features well, in the prestigious John Parry Relays.
Head of Swimming, Ian Maycock, is responsible for all of our swimming teams and teaching swimming as a curricular activity.
Water polo is an option for the boys three times a week. Matches are played against other schools and again some pupils play for York City Water Polo team.
Water Polo is also played by girls within the training sessions, with a general recreational swim available on a Wednesday.
