St Peter's 13-18
Sundays give our boarders a chance to stretch their legs. There’s no better place than God’s Own Country for those who love fresh air, scenery and the great outdoors.
Each house runs its own trips throughout the year, with pupils able to make their own suggestions as to places they'd like to visit.
Our boarders’ favourite locations include:
This pretty coastal town, just over an hour's drive away, with its medieval priory and historic quayside has deep associations with the Count Dracula tradition.
Fishing vessels still land catches here. Two to three hour mackerel-catching trips are great fun, and trying the famous Whitby Scampi or fish and chips is an essential part of any visit. Dolphin tours and browsing the hundreds of tiny shops are also much-loved pastimes.
The North York Moors
554 square miles of moorland, farmland and forest offer stunning scenery and walking opportunities.
The area is great for wildlife spotting (think red deer, birds of prey and grey seals) and with the ruins of vast and powerful medieval abbeys, old-fashioned steam trains and traditional English villages, the moors offer enough variety for many a repeat visit.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP)
YSP, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2017, celebrates the art of sculpture. The museum is famed for its extensive Henry Moore collection, with scupltures displayed outside in magnificent countryside. Regular installations from world-leading artists in a range of media can also be discovered, whilst the well-stocked gift shop and cafe offer tempting specialities.
Sending an old-fashioned postcard home after a daytrip is always encouraged.
Our junior boarders have a packed schedule of weekend activities each term. From falconry to canoeing and cinema visits to bowling, there are activities to give each of our boarders an exciting adventure every weekend. Some sedentary, some adrenaline-packed, these activities cater for every taste and also allow boarders to try new things.
Recent examples include Lightwater Valley, a visit to Wensleydale to walk in the hills and see the cheese shop, the Deep, Xscape, Cadbury World, Doncaster Dome and at Christmas the pantomime is not to be missed.
Of course, for those feeling even more adventurous, St Peter's holiday-time sporting and educational trips offer further opportunities for our boarders to try new things and spend time with their friends.
