St Peter's 13-18
The Art Department offers a wide variety of opportunities beyond the classroom designed to inspire pupils and allow them to extend and develop their creative understanding.
Art within St Peter’s forms a very vibrant and exciting part of the school and is at the heart of providing a holistic and relevant education. With outstanding facilities, including large drawing and painting studios, printmaking facilities (relief, intaglio and screenprinting), photographic darkroom, ceramics studio and extensive art library and computer suite, there are very few creative experiences that we can’t offer our pupils.
In addition, the Department also houses the Whitestone Gallery where up to seven exhibitions are held every year, showcasing the work of professional artists, local schools, institutes of higher education and of course our own pupils. The ability to showcase pupil artwork within the same space as ‘real’ artists validates the pupils’ work and places it very much within a wider artistic context.
The Art Department is open to all pupils on weekdays, and most Sundays. Staff are available to give one-to-one advice on pupils' creative projects.
Pupils can attend the Art and Pottery Club, a drop-in session for any pupils who wish to learn new skills or develop a personal project.
St Peter’s offers ‘Art Masterclasses’, half day workshops on a variety of skills and techniques run by Art staff with visiting practitioners. These sessions are open to all staff and pupils once a term.
The Art Department also holds Life Drawing Classes; an evening class offered to all staff and pupils as a block of six weekly sessions.
