St Peter's medical team recently had representatives from the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital to visit and they have awarded the school with the 'Asthma Friendly School Certificate'.
St Peter's is the first in York to achieve this, and Hospital representatives are working for every York school to meet the requirements in time.
The requirements which must be met for this certificate include the use of an organised Asthma Register for 'quick identification and access to necessary support.'(Asthma Recommendations for Schools NHS).
Clear Asthma Policy and Emergency procedures are crucial for a school's readiness as well, and staff are properly trained and ready to enact Pupil Action Plans for ensuring the best care is quickly available.
