Muay Thai Boxing World Champion Leads Sport Psychology Talk

This week, Rich Cadden, a two-time world champion Muay Thai boxer and expert in sports performance, gave a fascinating talk to our Sixth Form Physical Education and Psychology students.

Rich gave our pupils an insight into his career and how he managed to deal with the difficulties of sport at an elite level, sparking a refreshingly honest conversation on setbacks, triumph and personal development. Themes discussed also included entering a ‘flow-state’ and understanding the role Maslow’s Hierarchy can play in personal growth.

This session also emphasised that preventing altercations is always the best course of action, with the pupils even engaging in a short self-defence lesson and tutorial on how to avoid a potential confrontation.

At the end, Rich briefed the pupils on his book, Cadden’s Code, which further outlines his journey and displays how sport science and psychological models can be used to overcome challenges and achieve personal development. Copies of this book are available in the library.

Overall, the pupils really enjoyed and engaged with the talk, coming away from the session with increased knowledge of psychology and the importance of self-growth in sport and life.
