Before February Half Term, the 2026 edition of the St Peter's 8-13 House Singing competition took place, with pupils exhibiting some truly inspiring arrangements!
Opening with a strong performance was Alcuin, singing a powerful rendition of Africa by TOTO. The bar was set high, with both pupils and teachers showcasing inspirational vocal capabilities, setting the tone for a great afternoon of performance.
Up next was Ainsty, with a fantastically choreographed performance of What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. Spectators were loving the sight of the boyband getting back together - at least until they realised it was just members of staff with face masks and questionable dancing.

Elmet then delivered a vibrant performance of Viva la Vida, with the entire room joining in with the final chorus. Elmet also managed to assemble a full band, consisting of violins, drums and cellos, a challenging feat that looked and sounded incredible!
After a tough act to follow, Fairfax then produced a wonderful rendition of A Million Dreams. This song featured some standout solo performances, another huge band and some actual conducting, which left a great impression on our esteemed judges.
Finally, York stepped up to the plate, singing ‘Fate of Ophelia’, much to the delight of the vast number of swifties in the crowd. This was a superb finale, and all the houses can be very proud of their performances.

After a difficult decision, the judges revealed that Fairfax were the champions of the final 8-13 House Singing, prompting a well-deserved roar from the winning house. This year was also the first year of teacher participation, adding extra spice to an already action-packed competition. A massive thank you to all involved for creating such a memorable afternoon, and we can’t wait for the house singing from both our Junior and Senior Schools next year.
