Swimming St Peter's 8-13

Over the last month, some of swimmers have been competing in their respective regional championships. Representing their clubs, in total, 10 St Peters swimmers qualified for a total of 64 events which amassed 38 finals, 36 personal best swims and 17 medals. This is an incredible effort and one that everyone should be incredibly proud of. Roughly 12 percent of swimmers qualify through to regional championships, so to see so many there representing the clubs they work so hard for, is amazing.

Here is a brief spotlight of each swimmer:

Morgan: Year 7, 11/12 Years Age Group

Morgan had an outstanding regional championship, competing against some of the country’s fastest swimmers. An incredible 13 events entered resulted in 11 finals and 11 personal best swims. Such was the success of Morgan’s performances that she even had the luxury of withdrawing from a final to conserve energy for more targeted races. She achieved a brilliant 7 medals—1 silver and 6 bronze—in what was one of the busiest programmes you are likely to see. This is a testament to her hard work and dedication in training and preparation.

Charlie R: Year 7, 11/12 Years Age Group

Charlie managed to qualify for an impressive 7 events at this year’s regionals and achieved a 100 percent record of finals. With 4 personal best swims, many achieved in finals, he experienced several near misses (unfortunate 4th place finishes), as well as securing 1 outstanding gold medal, crowning him the regional 50m butterfly champion. A huge well done for the hard work required to achieve this.

Olivia A: Year 7, 13 Years Age Group

Another excellent regional championship from Olivia saw her enter 11 events and make 11 finals—quite an achievement. She achieved 9 personal best swims on her way to winning 3 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, completing the full set. The highlight was undoubtedly the gold medal that crowned her 100m freestyle champion. This is brilliant recognition of the endless hours in the pool, always approached with a positive attitude and steely determination.

Olivia M: Year 7, 13 Years Age Group

Olivia qualified for an impressive 7 events this year, a significant improvement from the previous year. While she didn’t meet all her personal targets—which is entirely normal—she can be proud of how she conducted herself and stayed focused on her goals. This was especially evident during the final weekend, where her outstanding performance produced a huge personal best in the 100m freestyle, narrowly missing out on the final. Olivia’s attitude, willingness to improve, and ability to be a great teammate were all on display, helping to cement her as one of the region’s best swimmers. She achieved a commendable 3 personal best swims.

Charlie H: Year 8, 13 Years Age Group

Charlie qualified for the three breaststroke events at the championships and made the final in each of them. Every time he swam, he improved, achieving personal bests in all three events by a significant margin. He secured bronze medals in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke events, with the highlight likely being the 200m. With strong support from the stands, he followed his race plan to perfection. A brilliant example of determination, coachability, and sheer effort.

Jess: Year 9, 14 Years Age Group

Competing in an age group that includes some of the brightest stars in British age-group swimming, Jess stood out with several strong performances. She qualified for 7 events and made 6 finals, with her main focus on butterfly events. Achieving 2 personal bests and winning 2 medals (1 silver and 1 bronze), she can be very pleased with her achievements. Her performances in her targeted butterfly events were a particular highlight.

Caitlyn: Year 9, 14 Years Age Group

Caitlyn qualified for 5 events across 3 different strokes. Although personal best times were narrowly missed, she demonstrated real grit, determination, and an ever-positive attitude throughout. Her versatility in the pool allowed her to showcase her all-round swimming ability.

Zach: Year 11, 16 Years Age Group

Zach travelled to the capital to compete in the London Championships, representing his hometown club. Maintaining a 100 percent finals rate, he achieved 6 finals from 6 events at the prestigious London Aquatics Centre. On his way to winning 2 medals (1 gold and 1 silver), he recorded 2 personal best swims. The highlight was being crowned London Regional Champion in the 200m backstroke. This success reflects Zach’s ability to balance training across multiple environments alongside his GCSE exam preparation, for which we wish him the very best.

Chloe: Year 12, 17 Years (and over) Age Group

Chloe qualified for multiple disciplines but chose to focus solely on backstroke events. She has worked tirelessly on her skills, race tactics, and technique, consistently pushing herself to learn and improve. She achieved several season’s best swims, as well as a personal best while making the final of the 50m backstroke. She narrowly missed additional finals while competing against more experienced, older swimmers.

Charles T: Year 12, 17 Years (and over) Age Group

Charles qualified for his two specialist events, the 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle, but was unfortunately unable to attend. He is a wonderful example of balancing two high-level sports alongside academic commitments at St Peter’s. His attitude and approach are inspiring to all.
