St Peter's Junior School have recently introduced new, dedicated play zones across our playtimes and lunchtimes in the Year 4, 5 and 6 Junior playground, and the feedback from the children has been nothing short of magical.
Our new play zones include:
• The construction zone, where our little engineers are building massive fortresses and imaginative vehicles using logs, tyres, planks and more.
• The creative zone, a space for artistic expression and imaginative, open-ended play using chalks. There is also a quiet reading area.
• The drama dress-up zone, a dedicated space for dressing up in costumes and putting on performances, transforming children into heroes, wizards, explorers and more.
• The enhanced sports zone, including skipping ropes, footballs, netballs and frisbees
The new zones have been devised by teachers to enhance the experience of outdoor play, especially with warmer months upon us. Our playtime provision is designed to aid pupils in developing confidence, thinking outside the box and learning how to manage risk and be respectful of equipment and peers in each zone. Thoughtful preparation and careful supervision will make for a safe and supportive environment for each zone to be enjoyed fully.
It was an enormous success on our first day - our playground was elevated into a buzzing hive of creativity, collaboration and sheer joy! Thank you to those parents who've so kindly donated items.
To keep this momentum going, we are looking for donations of "loose parts" to further build upon our resources, including tyres, wooden cable reels, scaffold-board planks and scooters. If you think you could help, please contact Miss L Anderson on [email protected] or speak to her in person.
