On November 27th, six pupils from #StPeter'sYear6 walked over to York Hospital to open the new Children’s Ward Parents’ Room that they had helped fundraise for.
Pupils were welcomed by the hospital, and given some special golden scissors to officially open the space, which is for parents use to rest, to make a hot drink, heat some food, or even to work flexibly whilst caring for their child.

Our pupils all rushed into the new space to test out the comfy chairs, and were presented with refreshments including some beautifully decorated cakes. The art on the walls are all made by pupils from St Peter's 8-13 which was a lovely touch from room designer Sarah.
Pupils also got to meet Evan, a patient of the children's ward, whose mum Louise told the children was classified as a SWAN (A Syndrome Without a Name). The children asked Louise lots of questions about Evan, and it was a lovely opportunity to meet a family who have benefitted from the use of the room.
Louise said “It is a perfect spot to come for respite, to have a little bit of time away from sitting by Evan's bedside. It’s accessible all the time, comfortable, and is just lovely.”
Rachel Brook, Head of Charity at York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity said "We are incredibly grateful for the £4,308 raised by St Peter's 8-13 to contribute to the refurbishment of the room. Both staff and parents have shared how much of a difference it has already made to families’ experiences."

Pupils also had an opportunity to speak to doctors and nurses from the Children's Ward including Nicola Lockwood, Interim Head of Children’s Nursing, and Gemma Granger, Interim Matron Acute Paediatrics. All the staff commented on how polite and delightful the children were.
The hospital is currently fundraising for their Tiny Lives Appeal. If you have the means to support the cause, they would be most grateful. Information on the Auction which is closing at 8pm this Sunday can be found here: www.yshospitalscharity.org/auction
