On September 24th and 25th, our pupils and staff at St Peter’s had the privilege of welcoming Karl Hopwood, a leading expert in online safety, to the school.
Mr Hopwood, a former headteacher and now an international consultant on digital safeguarding, spent the day delivering a series of engaging and thought-provoking sessions. Pupils across different year groups explored how to navigate the online world safely, covering topics such as managing digital footprints, understanding social media, and recognising potential online risks.
Staff also benefited from dedicated workshops, which provided practical advice on supporting young people in developing safe and responsible online habits. An evening session for parents and guardians offered further guidance on encouraging positive use of technology at home. The statistics of device usage by age are essential for understanding the current and ever-evolving technological landscape and Karl did an excellent job contextualising and answering questions about the subject.
The visit was a valuable opportunity for our whole school community to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that come with life online. It has never been more important to use technology responsibly and also ensure our pupils are prepared for the future, with many pupils having their own personal devices at school now as well. By sharing his expertise and real-world insights, Mr Hopwood has helped to equip pupils, staff, and families alike with the knowledge and confidence to make wise choices in the digital age.
